Phoenix Park — that little one-acre green space tucked between Main and South Limestone right in the heart of downtown Lexington — is getting a glow-up, and locals are going to love what’s coming. The reimagined park officially reopened this spring 2025 after a full renovation, bringing together families, dog-owners, and anyone who wants a nice downtown spot to relax.

The project cost about $4.6 million and took input from the community, designers (like Element Design and Gresham Smith), and city planners. The renovation adds several new features: updated play equipment for kids, a special stage for performances, adult-friendly bench swings, improved shade structures, and even something called an interactive fog area that provides cooling mist + LED lighting — kind of like a misty evening walk meets art installation.

Dog lovers haven’t been left out: the dog park has been upgraded with artificial turf and more seating, so your pup can roam (and you can relax) in more comfort. There’s also improved lighting, better access from sidewalks, more shade, and areas built for public art. All of this is meant to make the space more welcoming — whether you stop by after work, stroll through during lunch, or hang out with grandkids on the weekend.
